Student Work: Brand Identity + App Design
Project Title: Shifting Apathy into Action
Discipline: UX, UI Design,
Theme: Feel in Control of your Medical Decisions
A fictitious Canadian Healthcare Association seeks a brand identity and mobile app to empower early adults with depression to take control of their medical decisions. The app provides insights to the user's support team and encourages the user to build healthy habits. Through education and tracking tools, the user is able to make the best out of their next healthcare visit, while feeling in control of their medical decisions. The app provides a visual representation of how physical movement can treat depression, allowing the user to take an active role in their own healthcare.
The BUZZ brand and wordmark were designed to evoke a sense of energy, positivity, and connection. The colours are vibrant and inviting, while the font is modern and bold. The overall design is simple and easy to recognize, while conveying the message of mental health support and connection. The logo is versatile enough to be used in a variety of contexts, from digital to print.
Interactions were refined by conducting user research and understanding the user's needs and goals. Additionally creating a user flow diagram to map out the user's journey and identify any potential areas of improvement. Then wire frames and prototypes were created to test the user experience and refine the design based on feedback. Finally, a style guide was developed to ensure consistency across production.
Colour theory informed design choices to create an experience that resonates with users whom may be experiencing depression. For example, the colour turquoise was used to track activity as it invokes feelings of movement and energy.

Additionally, a data-visualization graph was incorporated to demonstrate how movement can improve mood over time. By leveraging colour theory and data-visualization, the user is able to gain a better understanding of their activity and how it affects their overall wellbeing.
